**Cervical Cancer**

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina

. It is caused by abnormal growth of cells in the cervix.

**Risk Factors**

The majority of cervical cancer cases are caused by a virus called the Human Papillomavirus (HPV),

 which spreads through sexual contact.

 Not all types of HPV cause cervical cancer. Some of them cause genital warts, but other types may not cause any symptoms. 

Other risk factors include:

- Multiple sexual partners

- Having sex at an early age

- Sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV/AIDS

- Smoking

- Lower income and education levels

**Clinical Complications**

If cervical cancer is left untreated for a prolonged period, it can lead to several complications.

 These complications can occur as a side effect of treatment or as the result of advanced cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer risks can be prevented by:

- Getting vaccinated against HPV from age 9 to 26. The vaccine is effective if administered before becoming sexually active

- Regular Pap smear tests to detect the cancerous conditions of the cervix after 35 years

- Safe sexual practices such as using condoms

- Avoiding smoking
